If you’re not an art buff, you might not be familiar with the name Albrecht Dürer, and that’s okay! Come down to El Museo Latino for the gallery talk with Dr. Amy Millicent Morris to learn more and view a sampling of his over 300+ works.
This talk is part of El Museo Latino’s current exhibit “The Marvel of Old Masters: Rembrandt, Goya, Dürer,” which is on display until March 16, 2024.
Dürer was German artist known for an extreme level of detail in his prints, which were printed in mass due to the rise of the printing press.
“Dürer’s success with both woodcut and engraving was partly due to his ability to produce designs with a level of detail and naturalism previously unseen,” said Eve Cobb, writing for The Collector.
Cobb wrote that unlike painting or sculpture, printmaking required extreme precision.
“Artists were only able to use lines of varying lengths and widths to convey features such as form, spatial depth, and light,'“ she said.
