Celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States with In Search of the Signers, a special exhibition at The Durham Museum in Omaha.
On July 4, 1776, the Second Continental Congress approved the Declaration of Independence, marking a defining moment in American history. This exhibition offers visitors a rare opportunity to connect with the individuals who helped shape the nation's founding through original letters, receipts, and historical documents.
The exhibition features materials from the renowned Byron Reed Collection, which includes documents associated with 49 of the 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence. Visitors can explore papers signed by Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, John Hancock, and 46 other founding fathers, bringing history to life through authentic artifacts.
Byron Reed, Omaha's first real estate agent and an avid collector of American history, assembled an extraordinary collection of coins and manuscripts. Following his death in 1891, he bequeathed his collection to the City of Omaha. Today, it is preserved at The Durham Museum and remains one of Nebraska's most significant historical collections.
In Search of the Signers offers a unique opportunity to discover the people behind the Declaration of Independence and reflect on the events that shaped the United States.
