Great Plains Black History Museum 50th Anniversary Luncheon & Hall of Fame

The Great Plains Black History Museum will host its 50th Anniversary Luncheon Celebration and Hall of Fame Recognition, marking five decades of preserving, elevating, and sharing Black history across the region.

The event will take place on Friday, June 19, 2026, from 12 to 2 p.m. at The Venue, 2120 N. 30th Street in Omaha. Community members, supporters, and leaders will gather for an afternoon centered on reflection, recognition, and continued commitment to the work of preserving history.

As part of the milestone celebration, the Museum will induct 50 individuals into the GPBHM Hall of Fame, with honorees announced through a five-year campaign that will reveal 10 inductees annually. These individuals represent both historical pioneers and present-day leaders whose contributions have shaped the cultural, civic, and historical landscape of the Great Plains and continue to influence future generations.

“This anniversary is an opportunity to recognize the individuals whose leadership, sacrifice, and service have shaped our communities,” said Pastor Portia Cavitt, President of the Board of Directors. “The Hall of Fame honors those whose legacies must be preserved, shared, and carried forward.”

Tickets are $50 per person and include admission to the luncheon and a one-year Museum membership. Attendance is limited to 150 guests.

Tickets are available at gpblackhistorymuseum.org or in person at the Museum, located at 2221 N. 24th Street, during public hours Wednesday through Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m.

The 50th Anniversary Luncheon represents a significant milestone for the Museum, which for the past half-century has documented and elevated the contributions and lived experiences of African Americans in Omaha and across the Great Plains. The event serves not only as a celebration of that legacy, but as a call to sustain and invest in the preservation of these histories for generations to come.
