Center for Holistic Development Honors 15 Years of Impact with Gala, Mental Health Conference

This June, the Center for Holistic Development, Inc. (CHD) invites the community to lean into the powerful truth of an African proverb: “It takes a village to raise a child.”

CHD will host two impactful events that bring this belief to life: the 15th Annual “Dare to Believe” Awards & Fundraising Gala on Thursday, June 26, followed by the Mental Health and Early Childhood Development Conference on Friday, June 27.

At the heart of both events is Dr. Mahalia Hines, a nationally recognized educator, fierce advocate, and mother of Grammy-winning artist COMMON. With more than 45 years of experience transforming schools and shaping communities on Chicago’s South Side, Dr. Hines is bringing her powerful message to Omaha: one that challenges us to uplift young children and families by investing in their emotional and developmental wellness.

Dr. Hines will keynote the gala and return as the luncheon speaker for the conference, joining Eddie Marrs, an early childhood mental health therapist, and Dr. Dahlia Lloyd, an education expert. This full day of professional development is designed for educators, caregivers, mental health providers, and, yes, parents too. Scholarships are available to make the experience more accessible for families.

In a beautiful blend of creativity and community, the events will also feature the artwork of George E. Miller, whose educational illustrations spark curiosity and celebrate the joy of learning. His pieces will be available for purchase onsite.

Since 2001, CHD has delivered culturally responsive behavioral health services that reflect the rich diversity of Omaha. Their holistic approach meets individuals where they are—linguistically, developmentally, and with dignity.
