A Recap of Cinco de Mayo Omaha’s Lozafina Collaboration
By Josefina Loza
We believe in crafting immersive, story-driven experiences that connect people to culture, community, and celebration. This year, our team was honored to curate the Casa de la Cultura’s Cinco de Mayo Omaha VIP Experience, which was dubbed “a dynamic journey through the rich heritage and vibrant heart of South Omaha” by one of the fiesta-goers.
From the moment our guests arrived, our intention was clear: to give media partners, community leaders, and social influencers an unforgettable, culturally-rooted experience that celebrated the history and heartbeat of this iconic neighborhood.
"South Omaha in a Box" VIP Gifts
We kicked things off with thoughtfully curated VIP boxes — a love letter to the community we serve. Dubbed “South Omaha in a Box,” each gift was hand-selected to highlight local makers, traditions, and flavors. From embroidered coasters and culturally inspired stationery to artisan treats and handcrafted worry dolls, these boxes were sensory introductions to the community’s essence.
South Omaha Walking Tour
Next, our group joined me on a guided walking tour through South Omaha. We explored murals, mercados, and small businesses that have become pillars in the neighborhood. Along the way, we heard powerful stories from locals, snapped vibrant photos, and soaked in the diverse sounds, scents, and textures that define this proud community.
VIP Concert Experience
After the tour, our guests were ushered into the VIP section of the Cinco de Mayo concert — a private area complete with access to authentic food from Maria Bonita, refreshing drinks, shaded seating, an unbeatable view of the stage, and direct access to the performers for photos and meet-and-greets.
The atmosphere buzzed with joy, dance, and pride. For a touch of fun (and adrenaline), we even included mechanical bull riding because no South Omaha celebration is complete without a little wild energy.
Why This Matters
At its core, the Cinco de Mayo VIP Experience, yes, had tons of perks and performances. But it was also about telling a deeper story, one that honors the legacy of South Omaha’s Mexican-American community, uplifts small businesses, and creates meaningful connections through intentional design.
To everyone who joined us: thank you. Let’s keep showing up, celebrating big, and telling the stories that matter.
