Van Gogh's Understudy by Rowena Cage (They/Them) merges the Van Gogh’s iconic style with the history of the Black women during the 19th century. Next to each piece of artwork Cage has thoughtfully crafted short, personal bios depicting the everyday Black woman. Often, Black women in that era were in the serving class, and often sexualized for being “exotic.”

Cage spent two years crafting this collection, and will be sharing her experience and inspiration during the artist talk from 6 pm to 7 pm. Tickets are free and can be reserved here.

You can also find four exclusive limited edition works from the Van Gogh's Understudy by Rowena Cage on display and for sale at Nebraska Furniture Mart, February 1 - 29 for their annual Celebration of Black Culture gallery display.

About Cage:

Born in Guadeloupe, raised in the Commonwealth of Dominica, and now based in Omaha, Nebraska, Cage's artistry is a fusion of their Caribbean heritage and Midwestern influences. A self-taught digital artist and mixed media expert, their work is a celebration of diversity, inclusivity, and the power of self-expression. Cage, who identifies as Black, queer, non-binary, disabled, and neurodivergent, transcends boundaries, weaving powerful narratives of representation and inclusivity.
