Take this opportunity to hear Malene Barnett, an award-winning artist, writer, and activist, speak about how she explores her African Caribbean heritage through art.
In her bio on the Black Artist + Designers Guild website, which she helped found, her artwork is described as centered on the modern black experience, “using traditional and contemporary methods and materials to bridge the function of textiles and ceramics from the African region in ways that explore what it means to be Black in America today.”
Barnet received her MFA in ceramics from the Tyler School of Art & Architecture, and experiments with sculptural ceramic installations and vessels, mixed media paintings, and tapestries.
Malene sits on the board of CERF+, which provides emergency loans to artistans and craftspeople during natural disasters. She’s also written a book called “In the Company of Women” and has been a speaker on Morning Joes, MSNMC Your Business, and TEDx. In 2019 she was awarded designer of the year by interiors + sources Magazines and received the RADD Award (Real Estate, Architecture, Design Development) from Brownstoner.com.
The talk is free to attend.
