If your goal for 2024 is to start your own garden, the 10th Annual Seed Share is the perfect time to learn about local varieties.
Hosted by the Omaha-based Big Garden, the event teaches, and supplies, the community with local seeds, courtesy of Blazing Star Seed Cooperative. Forty-five individual seed varieties were harvested and processed over the course of several months by the Big Garden before being hand-picked, deposited in envelopes and sealed for sharing.
Seed Savers Exchange, High Mowing Organic Seeds, and Fedco have also donated seeds for the event.
In addition to seeds, you can enter a raffle to win Chris Helzer's book, Hidden Prairie. Helzer illustrates the beauty and diversity of prairie through a series of photographs, all taken within the same square meter of prairie. During his year-long project, he photographed 113 plant and animal species within a tiny plot, and captured numerous other images that document the splendor of diverse grasslands.
Other organizations that will be present include: City Sprouts, Blazing Star Seed Cooperative, and The Nature Conservancy.
