Viridianna Almanza Zavala: Advocate, Educator, Community Leader
Viridianna Almanza Zavala has built her career around a simple truth: service is a calling. As Director of Programming at the Latino Center of the Midlands, she channels her passion for immigrant rights, indigenous peoples, and youth empowerment into programs that open doors and expand opportunity across Omaha.
Viridianna’s work reflects a wide spectrum of nonprofit leadership. She has taught Citizenship and Naturalization classes, organized individuals around immigrant and workers’ rights, and collaborated with nonprofit coalitions to strengthen advocacy efforts. Her experience spans the public sector and grassroots organizing, giving her a unique ability to navigate systems while keeping people at the center of her work.
A dedicated mentor, Viridianna has guided youth from K–12 and beyond, helping them envision futures full of possibility. At the Latino Center of the Midlands, she oversees programming that uplifts families and equips students with the tools to thrive. Her leadership is rooted in empathy, cultural pride, and a determination to remove barriers for youth.
Viridianna’s service also extends into civic leadership. She has been actively involved with the Omaha Public School Board, bringing her voice to one of the most important tables shaping the future of local education. Her ability to listen, build consensus, and advocate for equity reflects her unwavering belief that every child deserves access to quality education and opportunity.
With a Master of Public Administration (MPA), Viridianna combines academic expertise with lived experience, grounding her leadership in both strategy and compassion. She is also known as a connector, someone who loves networking, supporting community projects, and bringing people together to achieve shared goals.
