The Bloc Names Omaha Mayor John Ewing Jr. as the 2025 50 Over 50 Nebraska Lifetime Achievement Honoree

Lozafina client The Bloc is honored to announce Omaha Mayor John Ewing Jr. as the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2025 50 Over 50 Nebraska Awards. The ceremony, presented in partnership with AARP, will take place on October 25, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. at Embassy Suites by Hilton Downtown Omaha (555 S. 10th St.), celebrating Nebraskans whose leadership and legacy have transformed communities across the state.

The Lifetime Achievement Award is the highest recognition of the evening, reserved for leaders whose vision, service, and influence have left a permanent mark on Nebraska. Mayor John Ewing Jr. embodies this legacy through his lifelong commitment to public service.

A native of Omaha, Ewing earned degrees in Business Administration, Criminal Justice, and Urban Studies from the University of Nebraska Omaha before beginning a career in law enforcement. He spent over 24 years with the Omaha Police Department, retiring as Deputy Chief after leading divisions including Budget, Air Support, and the Special Victims Unit.

In 2006, Ewing was elected Douglas County Treasurer, where he managed over $1.7 billion in tax revenue across his 18-year tenure. His leadership modernized operations and expanded online services, setting a standard of accountability and innovation in local government.

Today, as Mayor of Omaha, Ewing focuses on affordable housing, job creation, infrastructure improvements, and advancing equity, particularly for North and South Omaha communities. His work continues to reflect an unwavering belief in fairness, opportunity, and strong neighborhoods.

Beyond public service, Ewing is devoted to family. He and his wife, Viv Ewing, are the proud parents of two daughters.

“Mayor Ewing’s career has been defined by integrity, vision, and a commitment to building a stronger Omaha for everyone,” said Dina Becirovic, CEO of The Bloc Inc. “His leadership has reshaped our city and uplifted communities across Nebraska. We are privileged to honor him with this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award.”
