Free Mentor Nebraska Workshop on Recruiting Diverse, Community-Driven Mentors

Mentoring matters — and so does representation.

For youth across Nebraska, having mentors who understand their lived experiences can be the difference between feeling seen or feeling overlooked. But finding mentors who reflect the identities, cultures, and realities of the young people they serve requires intention, relationship-building, and a shift in how organizations think about outreach.

That’s why MENTOR Nebraska is stepping up with a timely and transformative workshop designed to help mentoring programs strengthen their recruitment strategies and deepen their community impact.

On Nov. 18 from noon to 1 p.m., Mentor Nebraska will host “Sparking Change: How to Recruit Diverse Mentors & Volunteers,” a no-cost virtual training for mentorship programs, volunteer coordinators, youth advocates, and organizational leaders who want to build more inclusive, culturally competent mentor pipelines.

The session will be led by Marisa Hattab, a connector, culture-builder, and respected champion for authentic community engagement. Hattab is known for her ability to break down complex equity and outreach topics into real, actionable strategies that organizations can use immediately. Participants can expect a session filled with real talk, real strategies, and real connection.

Mentor Nebraska has designed this experience for anyone ready to move beyond traditional recruitment methods and toward relational, community-driven practices that attract mentors who bring lived experience, cultural fluency, and purpose.

The workshop will explore fresh approaches to outreach, relationship-building, and messaging, helping organizations broaden their reach while ensuring mentors feel empowered, welcomed, and supported.

Attendance is free, and the tools shared will support programs long after the training ends, offering practical ways to diversify mentor pools and strengthen long-term volunteer engagement.

The training will be held via Zoom, and registration is now open.
