Omaha’s Own Shining Star DREION Returns for Music at Miller Park
Some artists light up the stage. DREION ignites it.
The Omaha-born singer, songwriter, and foster care advocate is headlining the first Music at Miller Park concert of the season on Saturday, June 28, and for him, this show is far more than a gig. It’s a full-circle moment.
His story starts right here in Omaha, where he discovered his love for music at Grace Apostolic Worldwide Ministries. With roots deeply grounded in church, family, and the halls of Omaha Northwest High School, DREION’s gift was nurtured from the very beginning. He later took that foundation to Berklee College of Music, where he refined his signature sound, an electrifying blend he calls inspirational soul and R&B.
You may have seen him turn all four chairs on The Voice with his powerful rendition of Earth, Wind & Fire’s “Shining Star.” But long before the lights of national television, DREION’s journey was shaped by something much more difficult: foster care.
At just 7 years old, he entered the system, enduring five placements, seven medications, and waves of trauma all within six months.
“I didn’t realize my story could help others until I started sharing it,” he said.
Instead of silencing his pain, DREION turned it into purpose. Through music and advocacy, he began reaching out to foster care organizations and the impact rippled. He was named a national ambassador for Earth, Wind & Fire’s Music Is Unity Foundation, using his voice to uplift youth navigating the same system he once did.
His personal anthem, “Let It Rain,” inspired by his foster care experience, was so powerful it was added to the 2020 film Foster Boy after production had wrapped. Today, the movie and his music streams on Peacock and Tubi.
DREION hasn’t just used his platform to heal, he’s using it to open doors.
This summer, he’ll once again open for Earth, Wind & Fire, including a stop at The Astro in July, where he plans to host foster youth backstage for an unforgettable behind-the-scenes experience.
“It’s one thing to tell kids their dreams are valid. It’s another thing to invite them in and show them it’s possible,” he said.
June 28 marks his second scheduled appearance at Music at Miller Park, his first attempt in 2023 was cut short by storms just two songs in. Now, he’s back for redemption.
“I never got to give the full show I had planned,” he said. “This is my moment. And I’m pulling out all the stops.”
Expect surprise guests, interactive moments, and a debut performance of his new single, “Thank You for Loving Me,” from an upcoming album and 2026 tour.
Despite his rise on the national stage, DREION never forgets where he came from.
“When The Voice asked where I live, I told them ‘don’t say Boston. Say I’m from Omaha, Nebraska’,” he said. “Because it’s true. And it matters.”
With a powerful story, a fresh sound, and a growing platform, DREION is ready to pour back into the city that raised him.
“It’s a blessing to come back, connect with the people who’ve supported me, and be a difference-maker in my hometown,” he said, “even if I’m no longer based here.”
Music at Miller Park is free and open to all. The lawn opens at 5 p.m., with DREION’s performance kicking off at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 28. Learn more at o-pa.org/miller.
