MENTOR Nebraska Helps to Redefine Success at Black Youth Town Hall

What does success look like when you define it for yourself? How do you pursue your passions while protecting your mental, emotional, and overall well-being?

MENTOR Nebraska invites you to lean into these questions during its Black Youth Town Hall hosted at UNO’s Barbara Weitz Community Engagement Center today from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Too often, young people — especially Black youth — are told what success should look like. This conversation flips that script. It’s about creating a safe space for youth voices to rise, for stories to be shared, and for the community to listen, learn, and engage.

Co-founders of Melanin Market Omaha, Ty and Dell Nared, will facilitate this space in partnership with the Omaha nonprofit. The panelists include:

Jayohna Sims – A future educator and community advocate, committed to shaping classrooms where every student feels seen and valued.

Cameron Gramling – An entrepreneur and real estate investor who’s already charting his own path in the business world.

Jaeda Lawson-Betum – A pre-law student and youth equity leader who’s using her voice to fight for justice and systemic change.

Expect real stories, raw reflections, and wisdom you can carry back to your own work, family, and community. Some of the themes you’ll explore are resilience, identity, balance, and empowerment.
