Marcos E. Mora: Marketing Pioneer, Cultural Leader, and Community Builder
Marcos E. Mora was raised in South Omaha and is proud to be part of La familia Barrientos, one of the largest Mexican American families in Omaha, celebrated for more than 90 years of contributions to the city’s music scene. Surrounded by that cultural legacy, Mora carried forward a deep love for music, tradition, and community.
A graduate of Omaha South High School, Mora attended the University of Nebraska at Omaha through the prestigious Goodrich Scholarship Program, earning a bachelor’s degree in Spanish with a minor in Chicano/Latino Studies. During his final semester, he founded ABM Enterprises, launching Nebraska’s first Spanish Yellow Pages and later El Perico, the state’s first bilingual newspaper. Both became vital resources for Spanish-speaking residents and local businesses.
Since the late 1990s, Mora has been a pioneer in Latino marketing, guiding more than 800 businesses and organizations in authentically reaching Nebraska’s Latino community. His expertise and results have made him one of the state’s most recognized leaders in the field.
As CEO of Casa de la Cultura, Mora has expanded opportunities for Latino arts, culture, and celebration in South Omaha. His leadership has been pivotal in the tremendous growth of Cinco de Mayo Omaha and Fiesta Patrias, two of the region’s largest and most dynamic cultural festivals. These events not only honor Mexican heritage but also fuel economic growth, bring visibility to local businesses, and showcase the vitality of Latino culture.
Mora also serves as founder and executive director of the Barrientos Scholarship Foundation, executive director and vice president of the South Omaha Arts Institute, and member of the South Omaha Business Association. Through faith, family, culture, and service, Mora continues to strengthen South Omaha while ensuring Latino traditions flourish for generations to come.
