Great Plains Black History Museum Welcomes Damita Byrd as New Fundraising Manager
The Great Plains Black History Museum (GPBHM) is proud to welcome Damita Byrd as its new fundraising manager, bringing decades of leadership, strategy, and community-centered impact to the organization at a pivotal moment of growth.
Born and raised in Council Bluffs, Iowa, Byrd is a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School and Grambling State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and Public Relations with a minor in Finance. A certified diversity and inclusion professional, she has built a distinguished career across corporate, nonprofit, and community sectors, including leadership roles with Conagra Foods, Evergreen Capital Management, the Empowerment Network, Security America Advisors, and BCT Partners, where she served as Senior Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
Byrd is also the co-founder of Redefine the Game Institute, an Omaha-based leadership platform dedicated to helping emerging and mid-career leaders strengthen their readiness and impact. Her work has earned national recognition, including features in Profiles in Diversity Journal and the CEO Award of Excellence at Conagra Foods for her leadership and contributions.
A proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Byrd’s commitment to service, equity, and community advancement runs deep. Grounded, visionary, and purpose-driven, she joins GPBHM as the museum continues to preserve Black history, elevate untold stories, and expand its reach locally and nationally.
