Great Plains Black History Museum to Host Author Kwame Gyamfi for Book Signing
The Great Plains Black History Museum will welcome author Kwame Gyamfi on Saturday, Sept. 6, for a special book signing and community event. The program will take place from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the museum’s home inside the historic Jewell Building, 2221 N. 24th St.
Gyamfi’s journey is unlike most. Abandoned as a child, he navigated the foster care system, adoption, gang violence, and prison. With the support of five writers, he has committed his story to the page, pulling back the curtain on the experiences that shaped him.
His book traces the transformation from hardship to hope, detailing the ways he found resilience through sports, music, beauty, and love. Today, Gyamfi stands as a mentor and leader, using his voice to inspire others facing challenges similar to his own.
The event is free and open to the public. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet the author, hear his story firsthand, and purchase signed copies of his book.
The Great Plains Black History Museum, a cornerstone of Omaha’s North 24th Street corridor, continues to highlight the stories and achievements of African Americans across the Midwest. With events like this, the museum offers both education and inspiration, ensuring that untold stories are preserved and shared.
